Eyeliner addict: the Kat Von D Ink Liner review

This is a very famous and hyped up eyeliner. A friend of mine was travelling to Northern America, and she kindly brought me back of the the Kat Von D Ink Liner in "Trooper" - I might have mentioned that it looked amazing and I wanted to try it so badly!-. Now it's actually available on Sephora in France (only online for now?) so it's gonna be easier to get!
I'm so used to liquid eyeliner with a little brush, the applicator on the Kat Von D one is a bit harder than a brush, but is nice and pointy and not too thick - I never understood the point of a huge fat eyeliner tip -. You can achieve a very precise line!

I usually am not a big fan of the "non liquid"/felt tip eyeliner, because I feel like the it dries so fast and I hate buying something that dries in 30days, I get so frustrated with it, but this one did not! This lasted me a good 4/5months before was dry. Impressive!
It does not bleed on my eyelids, and I do have hooded eyes - it's often a problem with makeup -. It stays in place until I take my makeup off with oil at the end of the day. Every time I knew I was going to have a long day, or it was raining, or my eyes were particularly watery, I would use this product to do my winged eyeliner. It's very reliable

Swatch & water test!
I wanted to show you a little test that I did. I applied the eyeliner on my dry arm, let it set, and then ran my arm under cold water then warm water, and rubbed the product with my finger!

As you can see on the first picture, it's nice and black, but definitely not the blackest eyeliner I have ever tried! On the second picture, you can see that I really rubbed it, and it still stayed on! Very good point.

Pros (+)
+ It lasts forever and it's waterproof, does not transfer
+ Is nice and black
+ You can create a very sharp line
+ Does not dry out too fast
+ Very cool packaging

Cons (-)
- Hard to get your hands on
- A bit more expensive than a drugstore product
- When it gets a bit drier (after a month) can hurt your eyelids if you have sensitive skin

(Humongous) Empties #3 - 6 months worth of products. Makeup, body, face, hair...

Oops! I havn't published a blogpost in so long, it's a bit of a mess. Let's just say I've been busy/all over the place/ crazy over those past few months.
I came back from 3 1/2 months Croatia, settled back in Brussels, and directly received an offer for a 3 months job (paid, yes it still exists, I was amazed) in an archaeological projet. Halle-luuu-jiiiiaaaahhh! I had 1h30 of metro-train-tram journey one way, 1h30 back every day, so I just stopped worrying about the blog, and told myself that I would start again when I had a little bit more time. I didn't want to rush anything, and ending up posting "5words articles with a big picture to fill in space". So yeah, I'm finally back, and I'll try to continue this blog with content that I actually like.
Anyway, after all this time, I thought that an "Empties" article was long overdue after 6 months of keeping all my empty products in two bags, so here it is!

Makeup
* Bourjois Volume 1 seconde Mascara. One of my favorite mascara EVER. It separates my lashes, gives then lengths and volume, I mean... isn't this amazing? And it's drugstore! I tried some other mascaras in between the end of this tube and the repurchase of a new one, and I had to go back to this. I had to! I also tried the waterproof version - for special occasions - and it's as good!
Repurchase? Yes. I just did. My life is complete again.

* Essence Liquid ink Matt EyelinerCheaplong lasting, beautiful matte finish and pigmented! What else do you need in a liquid eyeliner?!
Repurchase? Yes I would - but not right now because I want to try different liquid eyeliners, but it stays one of my favorite makeup items from Essence -.

* Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in "Medium". It has a very good not-cheap-feeling spoolie at one end, and a very nice waxy pencil shaped on an angle on the other end. The color selection is not great (I would have liked a brown with red undertone, but we can't have everything sometimes...) but the medium actually works for me. It's easy to use, does not hurt when you apply the product, and stays all day long! I never had any problems with the color moving from my eyebrow to another part of my face! Good point.
Repurchase? Yes. And I already did, hihi!

* Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil in "Mohagony Red". I freaking love that stuff! It's the perfect color for my eyebrows, it's smooth, stays forever on, is so easy to use, but damn (because yes, there is a but.) it runs out of product so quickly! After a month, mine was already done...
Repurchase? No.  I found eyebrow pencils with more products in them for the same price. Sorry, I loved you, but I have to move on!

* Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying powder, in n°52 "Vanilla". This is one of the best powder I have ever tried. I used it every day after I purchased it! It's not caky, it mattifies without looking dry, it leaves a nice natural finish, and it works it's magic for the whole day on your face!
Repurchase? Oh yes. I just did! It's really a great "every day" powder.

* Hema Eyebrow gel. It's a cheap and simple eyebrow brush with some very light product on it. It doesn't give much color, but it's nice to finish up your brow after you used a pencil.
Repurchase? Yes, but I really want to find a better one...

* L'Oréal Color Riche nail polish n°885 "Aux Chandelles" Wax effect. Oh yes. I finished a nail polish, that doesn't happen often, I know! I mean, the bottle is quite small, but I'm also guilty of loving it too much! It's a very nude, neutral soft grey with a matte finish. It's good in summer, it's awesome in winter, it brings me life in spring, and it stays on my nails a good 3 days without chipping. I am a big fan.
Repurchase? YES. A bit fat yes.

Face products
* Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream. I received a small size version as a gift in a pack, so I tried it on, and it was actually very good and brightening. I finished this small pot quite quickly, and was very pleased with it.
Repurchase? Yes I would love to (but it's a bit expensive for now!)

* The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Sorbet. I had talked about it when I just bought a few products of the "Vitamin E" range from the Body Shop in this article, and I really enjoyed using this as a moisturizer every morning. My make up went on very smooth after the application, it wasn't sticky, and i could feel that my face really enjoyed it. It's definitely more for the "warmer" months (in winter, I need something a little bit more powerful), but I would recommend giving it a try.
Repurchase? Yes (again, as soon as I have a bit more money!)

* The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing oil. I used it to take my makeup off and it did a nice job, I loved the fact that it has a pump but it was nothing that exciting. This product was so hyped on different blogs and on Youtube, I was expecting something great, but I mean, it's an oil that takes your makeup off. Groundbreaking. They all do that! So yeah, stick to a more budget-friendly coconut/olive oil if you want, you will not be missing out on this product.
Repurchase? No, I'm fine with using other oils.

* Garnier Micellaire Water for Sensitive Skin. Definitely an essential for me! I always need a micellar water to take my makeup off at night, and this one could actually be my favorite. It's gentile, leaves my skin clean, and doesn't hurt my eyes!
Repurchase? Yes I would! An essential I'm telling you.

*Byphasse Solution Micellaire Démaquillante, sans paraben, peaux sensibles, sèches. I tried this micellaire water because I wanted to change it up, and yeah, it's a good one! You get quite a lot of products, it's paraben and alcohol free, it's an overall nice product! And not an expensive one!
Repurchase? Yes, why not.

* La Roche-Posay Serozinc Solution. I love and need this product in my life! I usually get very red cheeks once the winter comes, and thanks to this product, I get it less! It's so easy to use, one or two "pschiiits" after the shower in the morning, and it keeps my skin under control, I don't know by what magic, but it's amazing. I hadn't used it for a few months, and I had to repurchase it. The other toners I used didn't compare to this!
Repuchase? Yes! And already did, it was definitely a priority for me.

Body products
* Le petit Marseillais Huile sèche sublimante. Peaux très sèches. Karité, Amande douche, Huile d'argan. It leaves a beautiful glow on the skin, and smells like a mix of sensual and soft, what you would put on on a holiday in South of France. You can use it by itself of apply it after another moisturizer. It's not sticky at all, and it became one of my essentials during summer. It's also very easy to apply! Spray then rub it in! So simple!
Repurchase? Yes. Already have!

* The Body Shop Body Butter in "Mango", 400ml. This was a very large pot... and I bought it because I LOVE The Body Shop body butters! They are so sooo moisturizing, they always have deals to make the products cheaper, and it nourishes my sensitive skin while leaving a beautiful smell on my body. So yeah, it took me a few months, but I finished this beautiful monster of a product!
Repurchase? Yes. In another smell and in a smaller format to change things up

* The Body Shop Body Butter in "Papaya", 200ml. ... and yeah, I did got another one, and finished it in the meantime! A papaya smell! Very nice, different and perfect for the end of summer
Repurchase? Yes!

* The Body Shop Body Butter in "Blueberry" (Special Edition), 200ml. Another one. I really enjoyed this scent for winter!
Repurchase? Yes again! I think I'm a bit addicted!

* Ushuaïa Roll-on Deodorant, Hibiscus du Burkina Faso. The smell was very nice, fresh and feminine, but it was a very "basic" deodorant. It did the job, nothing mind blowing.
Repurchase? No. I'll keep experimenting.

Hair product
* Rich Hair Care Miracle Renew CC Shampoo. I received this smaller side product in one of my Birchbox, and I soon as I started to use it on my hair, I was actually impressed! I have very dried curly hair, and this gave them a nice glow! They were soft, smelled good, were bouncy and hydrated! I thought the whole "CC" was a gimmick, but they proved me wrong, I was definitely amazed.
Repurchase? Yes I would love to!

* Garnier Fructis Oil Repair 3 Hair Mask. I always like to do a hair mask before I wash my hair -I leave it in for at least 30minutes, dry-hair problems -, and this one was very good. I loved that it came in a big pot, you could just stick your hand in it and go for it. I was very pleased by the smell and by the texture! It was also very moisturizing, so no complain on my part!
Repurchase? No, I want to try other hair masks in the meantime.

Pink Gold, Bronze and Crème de Rose ; My Maybelline Color Tattoo 24h

I started my little addiction to those easy, beautiful and pigmented cream shadows that lasts so long on my lids by purchasing the color "On and on Bronze 35". The rich color attracted me, because I thought it would complement my brown eyes, and be a color quite easy to work with.
Then I wanted to find a matte base to put under my liquid liner when I wanted a more vintage matte statement look, and I found "Crème de Rose 91" from the "Creamy Mattes" collection. - His little brother, "Crème de Nude", looked also very nice, but the pink color suited my skin tone better.
The last one was definitely an impulse buy. Oops! I was already in love with the "shiny" consistency of "On and On Bronze", so it took me 3 seconds to decide to get "Pink Gold 65". Rose gold all the way baby!
What I love about those cream eyeshadows: These Maybelline Color Tattoo 24h cream shadows last foreeeever, and don't crease on me, even with my hooded eyes! And I put them to the test! 12 hours of road trip in the sun, sweat and everything, and they don't move! At the end of the day, they still look beautiful, and you don't have to worry about something moving and ending up on your cheek!
You pair that with a good waterproof mascara and I'm sure you can go swimming and come back looking the same.
Moreover, I enjoy their color selection. I wish I had them all. The gold color is really appealing to me, the green one too, and something deeper like a dark red color also. Temptation, temptation, temptation. When you get along with a product, it's so hard to not buy the whole collection, let's be honest. I'll keep you informed if anymore pot joins the family!
They are also so easy to use. Most of the time, I apply them when I'm in a rush, just with my finger and I'm good to go. But you can also use them to pump up a smokey eye, by putting them in a more intricate look, to give a bit of glitter, shine of humpf to your look. They will not let you down!
What I'm dreading: They will dry out eventually, and that will be a very sad day..

Mascara review: Sephora Outrageous Volume Mascara

I bought this Sephora Outrageous Volume Ultra Black mascara with a pack containing a gold-glittery liquid eyeliner and a black eye pencil. I think the theme of that pack was "a night out'... Well, for me, a "night out worthy mascara" should not budge and be black, voluminous and sexy. Let's see what it's worth!
What I like about it: The color of the mascara is a very intense, deep black. It gives volume, and you can remove it easily with any makeup remover.
What I don't like about it: The formula is quite liquid, and a lot of product stays on the want. It makes your lashes quite messy looking, clumpy, and if you try to work with it a little bit more, it glues your lashes together.. not cute. Moreover, after a few hours, it will transfer all over your face, so keep a mirror with you to avoid disaster!
Conclusion: I gave it a good go, but I will not be repurchasing it!

Empties #2 - The aftermath of my holidays!

Before I left for Croatia, I took with me most of the small version of products I accumulated during a year! From Birchbox to impulsive buys, I had quite a few that I wanted to test! How exciting!  Now, all of this is empty, and here are my impressions, and whether I would repurchase them or not!
* Beauty Protector Beauty Wash. It was a very feminine scent, not too sickening and sweet, but nothing that special. The packaging is very cute though!
Repurchase? No. It didn't made an impression on me. It's ok.

* Beauty Protector Beauty Cream. It's a hand and body moisturizer, and this time, the scent is spot on! Almost addictive! You almost don't need to be wearing parfume after applying the body cream, it's so nice.
Repurchase? No. Not because it's a bad product, but just because I like to try new things when it comes to body moisturizing, there is so much choice!

* Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturizing Shampoo. This is very good! With my curly hair, I need something moisturizing, and every time I used this shampoo, I could really see the difference. Curls more defined, hair smoother and hydrated. It did not leave any weird residue either. A very nice product indeed!
Repurchase? Maybe. If I'm one day ready to put almost 16euros for a shampoo (who knows!)

* Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner in Waterproof. I really needed a strong liner, because of the heat, and I thought of trying this one. It's very black and smooth, which is nice, but weirdly, the Matte version stays longer on my eyelids than this one. This one crumbles after a few hours. Good for the price, but if you can, go for the matte version.
Repurchase? No. I want to try so many other liquid liners, and this was nice, but not amazing.
 * Balea Spray-On Bodylotion. Perfect for summer. Spray on, so very easy and quick if you want to be on the move quickly, and very very light texture. Fresh smell.
Repurchase? Yes, I already did! Because I stayed one more month on holiday, and it's such a great product for that occasion.

* Whish Beauty Bath and Body Wash, Pomegranate scent. It was a nice texture, comforting in the shower, did not leave any residue. Overall good.
Repurchase? Maybe, if I had the money. It is a very nice scent, I have a soft spot for anything pomegranate scented!

* Nivea Pearl & Beauty Spray Deodorant. It's a cute small format, lasted one months, smells sweet and feminine, all over a pretty nice deodorant.
Repurchase? No. I think I'm going to try to go for something more natural next time.

The Body Shop Vitamine E Moisture Serum. It's a very light texture and I always put it on my face in the morning after the shower, and before my moisturizing cream. It makes a difference for my dry and sensitive skin, and now that I don't use it anymore, I can tell the difference. Beautiful product!
Repurchase? Yes. Definitely. Me and my skin, we miss it already!

Baking challenge #2 - Homemade bounty bars

After having tried to make Brookies on my first baking challenge, I was intrigued by another recipe.
I am a coconut lover, and the only chocolate bar that I was still buying in shops where Bounty bars. I love the creaminess of the inside, the coconut flakes, and the fact that after one or two bites, it's so thick that you're full, your craving for sweet/chocolaty things is fulfilled, and you can move on with the rest of your day! But I know it's really bad for you, and expensive for what it is. So I wanted to find an easy recipe for a homemade version of those sweet bars! Moreover, I bought a big bag of coconut flakes one day, and that bag has been sleeping in my kitchen for months, I needed to use it for something!

The recipes I found on the internet were all pretty similar; example1 example2shredded coconut (100grams), sweetened condensed milk (150grams), and some sort of dark chocolate (60grams).
3 ingredients! That sounds easy! I love coconut, I love chocolate, let's go for it!
Step 1- Mix your shredded coconut and your condensed milk together until you achieve a sticky and firm texture. Be careful not to add too much condensed milk, otherwise it can get way too sweet.
Step 2- Form balls or elongated shapes with your fingers by compacting everything in your hand, and put them in the fridge overnight when you're happy with the shape! I fancied a smaller version of the original recipe.
Step 3- Melt your chocolate and coat your cold coconut balls with a thin layer of cacao yumminess. (that's where it went a little bit wrong with me... I don't have a microwave and my chocolate's temperature wasn't warm enough for me to be able to get a smooth coating).
Step 4- Put back in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Then try them! You can keep them for around a week.
Conclusion: easy to make but it takes at least 24 hours before you can eat them. So it requires patience. Tasty, and I like the fact that there's only 3 ingredients, and that doesn't require too many skills... you can make them with kids, that could be fun! In the end, I think it's a win, and I'll do it again!

My experience in Šibenik #4 - Cetina springs

One Saturday morning, I receive a call from a Croatian friend, who sounded very excited: "We're going to the Cetina Springs,  I'm picking you up in 20minutes, pack your bag and get ready!". Wait what? Springs? Ok! And I didn't know at that moment that my Saturday was going to turn into one of the best days in Croatia! Indeed, the Cetina Springs are hidden gems, in the middle of nowhere, and I would recommend anybody visiting Croatia or even Bosnia to try to go have a look. It's unforgettable

The Cetina Springs are inland of Croatia, near the Dinara mountains, towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Put "Vrela Cetine" in your GPS for the springs, just next to the "Crkva Svetog Spasa" a beautiful 9th century church, if your gps doesn't find the springs directly.
Distance wise, it's about: * 33km from Knin    * 65km from Šibenik   * 80km from Split
You will be sure to have arrived at the springs when you see a newer, smaller orthodox-style church. You can park there, take your stuff and go explore!
After this long drive (I would say around 1hour), we finally made it and my eyes and brain got blows again! Waw. Waw. What else to say. From the top of the hill we were parked at, we could see a magical vision of amazingly turquoise/light blue water coming from an endless hole in the earth. It looked like you could reach the centre of Earth from that abyssal opening!
Try to put your foot in the beautiful cristallin water...
... but be careful, the water at 4/5°c, so super cold! I put my toes for a few seconds, my whole foot for literally 1second! Brr! Very very refreshing indeed! It's also a perfect spot for a picnic, you can put your drinks in the very cold water to keep them fresh! It's also a very quiet place. Not a lot of tourists/visitors are coming, even during July and August, no crazy roads nearby, nothing to disturb the peaceful feeling you have there. It's a nice natural adventure.
Crkva Sv. Spasa
If you have time after your visit/chilling time at the springs, walk a few km or drive 2 minutes to the "Church of Holy Salvation", Cetina, the famous "Crkva Svetog Spasa" that you will probably see in your GPS. Built in the 9th/10th century in a pre-roman style, this church is still standing with nice restoration works, which makes it exceptional for the region.

If you still have a bit of time after all that exploring, take your car and go visit the Knin Fortress in Knin (Kninska tvrđava to pronounce"Kninska tvérdjava"). It's free of charge to enter and you can visit the fortress, which is large, very high and impressive. The first traces of the building dates back from the 9th century, but the stage of the fortress is currently in was build during the 17th/18th century. There is also a bar up there, so you can stop for a little coffee or beer with a magnificent view on the whole city of Knin.

Easy Vegan Homemade Ice-cream Recipe

I really love ice creams, but usually, they are full of fat and sugar, and I wanted to find a quick alternative recipe to satisfy my cravings when they pop up to the surface! Combining a few different recipes, I found my perfect one, for a banana-based, creamy, crunchy vegan homemade ice-cream.

You will need:
* 2 very ripe bananas
* 2 spoons of peanut butter
*  ± 1 cup of almond milk
* Half a bar of dark chocolate
I really try to pick up organic and/or fairtrade bananas and dark chocolate and peanut butter composed of 100% peanuts (with the sweetness of the bananas, you don't need added sugar). Same for the almond milk, I prefer the unsweetened one. Soja milk can be used too, but I thought that rice and coconut milk was too watery for the recipe.
* First step: peel and chop the bananas in medium pieces, and put them in the freezer overnight.
* Second step: Put your frozen banana bits in a food processor, add 1 cup of milk, 2 spoons of peanut butter and your chocolate, cut into medium pieces. Start the food processor on a low speed.
Everything will blend together. If it doesn't, use a big spoon to help you. Your result will be creamy, with a little bit of crunch coming from the chocolate bits. Almost like a vegan banana stracciatella icecream!
* Third step: Eat it. I'm sorry for that part but I ate the final result without taking a picture before! Oops! (baaaad blogger that I am!) Enjoy this cruelty-free treat and share the love!

Essence VS Catrice: Who Will Win the Battle of the Black Eye Pencils?

My basic black eye pencil died a few days ago, and I wanted to find a new, cheap, reliable one. What I look for in a black eye pencil is the creaminess of the product, how black it is, and for how long it stays on my eye without smudging.  While at was shopping, I came across the Essence and Catrice counters, just next to each other, and their black pencils looked very similar, for around the same price (less than 3 €). I just went for it and bought them both, now, let's see which one is my favorite!
Catrice Long Lasting Eye Pencil Waterproof,  shade "010 New Kids On The Block".
Has a sharpener at the bottom of the pen, which is very handy.
You can remove it with micellar water. It's not waterproof, don't believe the label!
It's a nice pencil, basic, black, but does not stay on the eye very well, it turns more dark grey and will not stay on my waterline for the whole day. I use it when I don't want to spent the extra time taking off my make-up at night!
Catrice on the left, Essence of the right
Catrice on the left, Essence on the right, after a finger swipe
Essence Gel Eye Pencil Waterproof, shade "01 Black Blaze".
Automatic twist pencil.
You have to remove it with an oil based makeup remover, or with any type of oil.
It is so creamy. Ultra black, it does not move after it has dried on your skin. When I like my upper and lower waterline with it, it gives a very intense look, and I know it will stay all day long. It's a winner! And for that price, I wish I bought it in every color, and had purchase more black ones!
Win!

My experience in Šibenik #3 - Saturday in Zadar

On a very sunny weekend, we decided to go visit the city of Zadar in Dalmatia, located 90km north of Šibenik. Broke students that we are, we went by bus, which took around 1h45minutes to get there. Unfortunately, the Zadar coach station is outside of the city center, so you'll have to take a local bus - and pay 10 kunas -to reach the center. You will see that when you reached the historical centre, it's surrounded by fortified walls and many beautiful doors. You have arrived!
As an art and history lover, I could not be more excited to enter the beautiful city of Zadar. Indeed, some archaeological evidence show that the area of the city was inhabited since the prehistoric time. Then, through Antiquity, the Liburnians, Phoenicians, Greeks and other peoples made the city their home and/or their business centre.  And of course, there are the Romans. You can see their signature and their style all over the city. They started to arrive in Zadar around the 2nd century BC, then gradually invaded the region, until Zadar became an official Roman colony.
The most impressive architectural monument for me was the Church of Saint Donatus, that you can see on the first picture, built during the 8th and 9th century BC. It's a beautiful and impressive example of early medieval architecture in the region, it's splendid, huge,  powerful, simply amazing.
I loved the overall feeling of the city. Compared to Split - which gets very busy and touristy during the season - Zadar is breathable, full of little parks  (like the Perivoj Kraljice Jelene Madijevke where you can have a drink, talk and chill) and ruins, not too busy, not too noisy.
When you go towards the far end of Zadar, you can reach the sea, and the amazing sea organ, created by the artist Nikola Bašić, that blew my mind. It sounded like a magical whale, it was so melodic, and staying there for a couple of minutes with your feel in the cool water was paradise. A peaceful, unique and beautiful experience, that I will always remember. You can definitely spend a nice full day in the city, and then continue on your trip down the beautiful dalmatian coast. Enjoy!
